Pastor, Fr. David Medow introducing a new member of the Catholic faith to the church community.
Fr. David Medow, Pastor of St. Mary Immaculate Parish, arrived on the staff here in July, 1998.  He became the Pastor of the parish in June, 2005.

A native of Chicago, Fr. David is notable for being a married priest.  He was raised a Lutheran and was ordained a Lutheran minister in 1985, serving for nearly 12 years.  He was received into the Roman Catholic Church on November 1, 1996 by Bishop Joseph Imesch and received permission from Rome to begin a course of study for the priesthood.  Fr. David is one of about 150 married Roman Catholic priests in the United States:  the Holy Father occasionally gives permission for the ordination of married, former clergy from  other denominations who become Catholic and complete at least three years of training for priesthood.  Currently, Fr. David is the only married priest in the Joliet Diocese and one of only a small handful in the Midwestern United States.

Fr. David attended public schools in Chicago, Georgetown University in Washington, D. C.  He received an MA in Theology from Oxford University in England and a Masters of Divinity Degree from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.  He has nearly completed his work for a Doctor of Ministry Degree and Licentiate in Sacred Theology from Mundelein Seminary.

Fr. David and his wife Jane (who has always been Catholic) have been married since 1979.   Jane has actually been a member of the St. Mary's staff longer than Fr. David.  She has be a member of the Parish School Faculty for 12 years.  David and Jane have a son, Nikolai (19) and a daughter, Hannah (14).  The Medow's dog, Dusty, would also want to be included in the list of family members.

Fr. David's Special Thank You to SMIP after the Installation as St. Mary's Pastor by Bishop J. Imesch

To our priests, deacons, staff members, ministers, volunteers and parishioners who participated in, helped with and attended the Installation Mass on Saturday, September 10, 2005:

Thank You so very much for your work, your presence and your support. It was a joyous and spirit-filled occasion gently led by our great Bishop Joseph Imesch. What a wonderful and blessed faith community we have here!

May God continue to bless us all and lead us as we seek faithfully to attend to the tasks that the Lord has given us. And we ask Our Lady to assist us with her prayers and presence in our midst.

With love from,

Fr. David Medow and family
