Oplatki Wafers
Available in Commons

The Oplatki, meaning “holy bread,” are large, thin, rectangular wafers which are embossed with figures of the Christ Child or other Nativity scenes. Christmas Eve has always occupied a special place for those of Polish and eastern European heritage. The Oplatki custom which originated in Poland was also adopted by the people of Lithuania and the Czech and Slovak peoples. A limited amount of Oplatki has been blessed and will be available in the Commons during Advent, beginning on Nov. 22. Donations are always appreciated. If more Oplatki is needed, it can be purchased at McAnally’s Religious Resources in Plainfield. For more info, please contact Laura Van Ham, at 815-436-2651, ext. 887.
